WOW!!! What an amazing first 11 days of National Kite Month! We have had folks flying in the Tulip Fields of Washington State for the whole month. There has also been tremendous amounts of kites taking to the skies over Australia, Tennessee, New Jersey, California, and more! Starting this last weekend teams from all over the world have convened on the shores of France for the WORLD SPORT KITE CHAMPIONSHIP. With hundreds in attendance as competitors and thousands in attendance to watch the activities, rest assured that it will be a great show! April 16th – 18th Annual Blue Ridge Kite Festival, Green Hill Park, VA. In the majestic rolling hills of the Blue Ridge Mountains on Saturday, April 18th, the 17th Annual Blue Ridge Kite Festival will return to Green Hill Park. Hosted by the Salem-Roanoke County Chamber of Commerce, this event includes free admission, free parking, free t-shirts for the first 1,000 kids, free Kroger kites and free ice-cream while supplies last. Fun for all ages, the festival boasts attendance of more than 10,000 from all over the states of Virginia, Maryland, West Virginia, North Carolina and Tennessee. The Richmond Air Force Kite Club will dazzle the crowd with enormous handmade kites and extraordinary flying stunts. April 16th – Jacobson Park Kites – Lexington, KY. The skies of Jacobson Park will be filled with hundreds of kites this spring as Kite Fest returns for another year. Join us as we celebrate National Kite Month and our first major outdoor event of the season. Free activities will include kite flying, children’s games, special entertainment, kite making and much more. Food and beverages will be available for purchase throughout the day or families may pack a lunch and picnic in the park. April 16th – Aviation Adventure – Muncie, IN The 75 student-led project for a project management class at Ball State University will encourage participants to put down their phones and pick up a kite! 11am-2pm Flying a kite, throwing a Frisbee, and watching a glider soar through the air are ultimate carefree leisure activities. The lost art of these head lifting, outdoor activities needs a resurgence to counteract constant head lowering, indoor activities. Enjoying fresh outdoor air, looking at the blue sky along with playfulness creates a joy that promotes health and happiness
